Remote Interpreting - OPI & VRI

Phone and video interpreters, anywhere in the United States

On-demand when you need someone this minute, or scheduled when you know the date. Over-the-phone and video remote interpreting in 245 languages, including American Sign Language. Wherever you are, we can be on the call.

Two ways to reach an interpreter

On-demand, or booked in advance

Both phone and video are available either way. Most organisations end up using both - scheduled for appointments they control, on-demand for everything that walks through the door unannounced.

On-Demand

You need an interpreter now and there was no way to plan for it. Connect without an appointment, any hour of the day. This is what an emergency department, a front desk or an after-hours call actually needs.

Scheduled

You know the date, the time and the language in advance. We reserve an interpreter who suits the setting and brief them beforehand, so they arrive on the call already knowing what it is about.

Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI)

A three-way call with a professional interpreter, from any handset, anywhere in the United States. Nothing to install and nothing to set up - you dial, we connect the interpreter, and the conversation carries on. It is the fastest way to reach a speaker of an uncommon language.

  • Available on demand, with no booking, or scheduled ahead for a set appointment
  • Works from a desk phone, a mobile or a conference line - no equipment and no app
  • The practical choice for rare languages that cannot be sourced locally in person
  • Billed by the minute, so a two-minute call costs two minutes
  • Interpreters briefed on the setting when the call is booked in advance

Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)

An interpreter joins your video call, so everyone can see one another. Video is what you want when the visual matters - American Sign Language, a clinician demonstrating something, a document held up to the camera, or a conversation where reading the room changes how it goes.

  • On demand for unplanned conversations, or scheduled for a fixed appointment
  • The right choice for American Sign Language, which cannot be done over the phone
  • Faces, gestures and shown documents are all visible to the interpreter
  • Joins the video platform you already use - no new system for your team to learn
  • Costs far less than travel time when the meeting is short

Who we work with

Remote interpreting built around your setting

An interpreter on an emergency call and an interpreter on a recorded claims interview need different training. We match the interpreter to the situation, not just to the language.

Healthcare

Hospitals, clinics and private practices anywhere in the country. Federal law requires meaningful language access for patients with limited English, and remote interpreting is how most organisations meet it outside scheduled appointments.

Legal and Courts

Remote hearings, depositions, attorney-client calls and recorded statements, with interpreters used to legal register and procedure.

Education

Parent calls, enrolment, IEP meetings and district communications for families who do not speak English at home - across every building in a district, from one number.

Government

Benefits offices, public services and call centres where residents have the right to be understood in their own language.

Insurance

Claims interviews, recorded statements and adjuster calls, where an inaccurate rendering has real financial consequences.

Business

HR meetings, safety briefings, customer support lines and training for a multilingual workforce spread across several sites.

Common questions

What buyers usually ask first

What is the difference between OPI and VRI?

Over-the-phone interpreting (OPI) is audio only, on any telephone. Video remote interpreting (VRI) adds a camera so everyone can see each other. Choose video when the visual matters - American Sign Language, anything being demonstrated or shown - and phone when you simply need to be understood quickly.

Do you cover the whole United States?

Yes. Phone and video interpreting are delivered remotely, so where you are does not affect whether we can help. Our on-site interpreters, where someone travels to you in person, are based in and around Columbus, Ohio.

Can we get an interpreter without booking one?

Yes. On-demand phone and video interpreting connects you without an appointment. You can also schedule ahead for a known appointment, and for planned meetings that is worth doing, because we can brief the interpreter on the setting first.

How many languages do you cover?

Two hundred and forty-five, including American Sign Language, and including languages that are difficult to source locally in person - which is exactly where remote interpreting earns its place.

How is remote interpreting billed?

By the minute for on-demand work, so a short call costs what a short call should. Scheduled sessions are booked for the time you reserve. Tell us what you expect to need and we will quote it before you commit.

Do your interpreters handle medical and legal settings?

Yes. Interpreters are matched to the setting rather than only to the language, because the vocabulary and the register in an emergency department and in a deposition are not the same. We are HIPAA aware and every assignment is confidential.

Need an interpreter on the line?

Tell us the language, whether you need phone or video, and whether it is now or for a set date. We will come straight back to you.
